Itâs probably worth saying here that, in the society that weâre in now, pretty much most influencers and girls do edit their pictures. And Iâm not going to sit here and say I donât edit my pictures because I do â but I donât edit them to alter my appearance. Iâll never change my body or my size. There are apps where you can, say, change the tone of the photo and brighten it up, to make the colours pop, so Iâll use those â and Iâve been very transparent about it.
Iâve made videos on YouTube about how I edit my Instagram pictures, and Iâll show the stages from start to finish, in terms of how I remove things from the background or add a filter or sharpen a photo. Itâs enhancing whatâs already there. And I make that very clear on my socials: that the way I edit is more to make the picture look better as a whole. Itâs not to fundamentally change or warp the way I look. Because if you want to see the way I look outside of a photo, you can just go over to my YouTube and watch me live! You canât filter YouTube at all.
I think thatâs why my audience are very trusting of me, because if they want to see a more off-duty version of me, everythingâs there for them to see, completely unfiltered and completely raw, even first thing in the morning when I wake up and Iâll be vlogging and havenât brushed my teeth or brushed my hair! I think itâs nice to show those two sides: the YouTube side, where itâs more relaxed, and the Instagram side, where itâs glossier.
And Iâve always been very transparent that when you see someoneâs Instagram pictures, youâre seeing just one snippet of that person that theyâve chosen to give you. While I do think my Instagramâs a good representation of how I look in that moment, no one looks the way they do on Instagram all the time â itâs just not the way it is! For 90 per cent of my life, Iâm literally in pyjamas or something just as comfy, with no make-up on, hair in a bun. So people need to remember that Instagram is not real life. Itâs literally what that person is choosing to put out; and, letâs be real, not everyoneâs going to want to put out a picture of themselves having a bad day or not looking their best.
Itâs just like a highlight reel â the best parts of everyoneâs lives. On my YouTube, I always say, âTake Instagram with a pinch of salt â it may look like I just nipped out to grab a quick Starbucks, but it may have taken me 100 tries to get that picture! But itâs my job to show the outfit that Iâm wearing and show you guys what Iâm up to.â So, enjoy what you see on Instagram â I do! â but just remember itâs not always what it seems.
